The most satisfying aspect of being free to paint is in finding one’s voice. Initially I just wanted to improve my skill- even though I always liked my naive style; the paintings I like have this naivety. I knew, however, that once I started on the abstracts, I would want increasingly to express meaning and yearning. One aspect of this is religious feeling.
