Lost Weedy Seadragon

Finding this dead Weedy Seadragon washed up on Maslin Beach, I felt compelled to pay tribute to this gorgeous creature and honour its life. I decided to preserve it so I could utilise it’s loss as a way to shed light on the state of our oceans. After carefully drying the animal, I chose to showcase it against a backdrop that reflects its natural habitat. As I’m predominately a jeweller, I like to work with metal and so chose aluminium as the background which I manipulated to reflect the waves with the sun shining on it. I then coloured the metal using watercolour paint and sealed it with varnish to preserve the background.
